Akutsu suggests using this bowl for "cafe au lait". It's a light, cozy-feeling coffee bowl which looks almost like a cafe au lait itself, with some scratched details. It will transport you to a little kissaten in rural Japan...

The influence of Western food, as it is served in Japan, on Akutsu's work is widely evident in his pieces, but perhaps nowhere more so than this two-handled "soup bowl." You can just imagine an onion soup in here, toasted bubbly with cheese... or a nice hearty lentil

The choice of the word "sakazuki" seems a bit strange for a vessel that isn't a small, low open cup, but nonetheless, Akutsu suggests this cup as a serving cup for sake. It works well for tea as well.

On the more rustic end of Akutsu's range, this somewhat shallow donburi is nice for topped rice dishes (donburimono), and flexible enough to be used for serving other items.

This small plate, roughly 8-10cm in diameter, can be used as a "tori-zara" to place foods as you take them from the center of the table. But Mr. Akutsu has given it a more contemporary description, and refers to it as a "saucer plate" instead of the more common "kozara"

We have just one of this simple, rustic-contemporary donburi (bowl). It's perfect for serving donburimono and other topped-rice dishes, or maybe even for udon.

Deep green spheroid narrow-necked vase with contrasting raw, unglazed top and iron-based bottom finish. An excellent example of the fusion of the rustic and the contemporary.

Another excellent rustic donburi by Akutsu Masato. This bowl is suitable for donburi or other serving application.

A simple rice bowl with white and tetsu decoration, with exterior scratched adornments; the bowl is glazed inside.

We suggest using this type of plate when serving tea or sake. Serve a small slice of cake or some Japanese sweets directly on the plate, and serve your beverage in one of Akutsu's guinomi or coffee cups.
